We undermine our own artistic creativity and ridicules it by not putting more focus on our strengths and capacities. Right now most cultural infrastructures in Africa are based on the individual capacities of the artists themselves.
They train themselves and get once in a while a workshops from “experts” from the developed countries. ‘Experts’ in Africa are not Africans themselves and by that is is impossible to create a sustainable art industry.
Is it time to redefine the new rule of engagement, and whom do we consider ‘African’ in this case?
